I think the problem is that they’re usually kind of boring. Originally, they were titillating, and I’m sure they still are for some people.  However, pictures of naked people are just a few clicks away.  Now, sex scenes just seem like a waste of time, just like bad action scenes.  For a scene of any sort to be

I generally liked the show, but I agree that they took way too long to get the characters to work together. (I guess that’s the thing they learned this season, so they’ll work together the next one... maybe?) The finale was way too much story for its length, which is funny, because midseason, the show was way too

I feel like the people of the future should have gotten over vodka by then.  I mean, it’s the worst hard liquor-- pretty much just ethanol and water.  Any recipe calling for vodka is better off with gin or rum.

Not the police budget, as that’s just an excuse to pull it away from some other department to make up the difference.  Instead, pull it out of the pension fund.  Then, maybe the police will recognize the threat of bad cops.

Reading IO9 reviews of this series made me wonder whether we were watching the same thing. The plots the reviews wrote about seemed the same, but for some reason, the reviews were weirdly negative. This show is really excellent. The episode “Magic to Make the Sanest Mind Go Mad” is the best stand-alone episode and

Regarding the legitimacy of nobility in a D&D game, it depends on the conceits of the setting. Are the good gods actually granting divine right to kings and nobles? Maybe, it’s a good idea to follow along. Does no one really know any better (like people from throughout most of history?) Then, assume your characters

Absolutely. Theories are much more important than facts, because they have explanatory power. They grow and develop with revision, or they collapse under the weight of contradictory evidence. The Theory of Evolution is a well-tested one that has undergone a great deal of revision. It’s unfortunate that the common

Tobias Whale is an amazing villain on this show. They pulled an early script flip by making it appear Lady Eve was his bigger and badder better, but he made her into a chump. He did the same thing with the racist spook. I’m enjoying watching his rise into true supervillainy. Also, the performance is nearly as good as

That sounds similar to Gnosticism. The Creator god is evil, so our physical bodies are evil, even if our souls can be good and pure. Or something like that.

In teaching undergraduates in STEM, I definitely see this phenomenon. Young women are much more likely to seek help, clarification, and support, while young men tend to go and just do their own thing. I often see a female super-performer who clearly understands what is going on and is already doing excellent work seek

The scene in which Anissa shatters the Confederate statue was really satisfying for me as a viewer, even if it didn’t seem satisfying to her as a character. This show is surprisingly good. I was expecting a pretty decent show, but it goes above and beyond.

I liked the end of the episode in which they went to the town of circus freaks. Unbeknownst to our heroes, the tattooed geek had saved the day by eating the killer disconjoining twin. He looked a little ill, so Mulder asked if he was okay, and he just said, “I think it’s something I ate.”

I’m a boringly straight white male. I have never understood this weird thing about dark skin somehow being ugly. I know there’s a long history regarding toys, media, popular sayings, etc., but I just can’t wrap my head around this strange idea of dark skin being ugly. I mean, if we can accept green-skinned Orion women

Or this nastiness:

I haven’t finished it yet, but this series is much better than I expected. I just finished the episode titled “Front Toward Enemy.” The title refers to the label on a claymore mine, but the episode has the theme of people not knowing who their enemies are. The show is well-crafted.

Unless I’m missing some context, I think you replied to the wrong post.

When the prisoners are in the shuttle bay, the intercom voice is calling a physician to the medical bay, so they at least got her into the ship for treatment.

I’m a loyal Agents of SHIELD watcher, and it’s been kind of fun watching Chloe Bennet’s evolution as an actress. In the early (honestly weak) episodes of the show, she was not very good, especially when one stacks her against the other talent. Her background was chiefly as a Chinese pop star and pinup girl.

I’ve gotta disagree that all of the ABC Marvel stuff is bad. AoS has been pretty solid since the last third of season 1, and while it was sadly under-viewed, Agent Carter was quite good. Inhumans is looking pretty lousy, though.

The Incredibles is not a kids movie. A few years ago, we showed it to our then 4-year-old daughter who loves computer animated movies and loves superheroes, and she was pretty bored. The first half of the movie is about a guy’s mid-life crisis. You can’t call The Incredibles a kids movie just because there is no
