I remember the good old days, when the fact that “In my defense, I did the legally-mandated minimum required of me” was the most disgraceful part of this whole thing for Paterno.

Ha. In what way are the students at the school being punished, exactly?
Completely disagree. Not because PSU’s actions aren’t reprehensible, but how illogical would it be to have a conference called the Big Ten, but with 13 teams? It just wouldn’t make sense.
This is not a convincing argument on any level.
I said it when the whole scandal began, the only appropriate penalty is to disband the program. If so much of the football leadership was intent on covering this up in order to save the program, then that’s exactly what they should lose. Let every player transfer without penalty and pack it up (without levying anymore…
Can you prove Penn State is using their football revenue to fund other sports? Because every program says this is true, and every time they take a deep dive and subtract all the salaries and and expenses and improvements and “reinvestments” in football programs, it nearly always turns out that the programs don’t pay…
Let our coaches coach us! That’s why we came here!
Bingo. It’s the culture around it that makes me so fucking sick. It may be a little Get Off My Lawn of me but each time I unfortunately watched as some fucking PSU clown apologist got on TV, literally screaming, talking about “But...but...but what about HIS LEGACY that he’s built...all the good things!?!? There’s no…
kinda makes you wonder. Like maybe he had some weird fetish of his own.
If they wiped out the football program, taxpayers would save money and the school fees would drop. Tell me again why the death penalty would punish current students?
Yea but Ohio State players got free tattoos, so it’s a wash.
I just don’t have any more words about the level of sadness, but mostly anger, this whole story makes me feel.
Where is he buried? I have to take a piss.
You left out the fact that the guy running the show at Penn State is the same guy who ran things att FSU and ran interference for the rapist named Jameis Winston while at FSU. Who the fuck was on that hiring committee?
I just moved to NE PA, and I’ve learned to avoid the topic. I made the mistake a couple times early on, of making a joke about people who actually backed him or believed he knew nothing, when it came up in convo. Almost every conversation ended with someone giving me the side eye, and walking away. The ones that…
i’ll certainly be happy to cosign your spleen venting in the first couple of paragraphs, but your last statement is really the most salient. it’s vital to work to affect a change in culture so that the response to whistle-blowers is to do everything possible to protect them rather than looking the other way as they’re…
I am a PSU grad and bottom line they were guilty as sin. There is nothing to debate about or discuss. Every single one of them deserves to be punished. The only justice for Paterno is the fact that he knew his name and legacy were destroyed when he died. I will say it is frustrating to hear people bash the school when…
I remember when St. Joe said he wouldn’t retire because he didn’t want to leave college football to the Barry Switzer’s and Jackie Sherril’s of the world. I’m sure a lot of shit went on with both of those staffs but I’ll wager big bucks none of Jackie’s or Barry’s coaches were members of NAMBLA.
