Very nice!

My laptop is my home PC. It’s connected to AC power at all times (supposedly bad for the battery but thus far seems to work OK...) - so the laptop’s battery serves as my UPC. But yeah, I am thinking of getting a ‘real’ UPC as backup to charge my phone and tablet...

I use Freefillable forms as well. They’re pretty straightforward to use and will take you all the way to setting up electronic payment (or refund). But as Beth wrote, it’s just a collection of fillable forms - plus instructions in the usual “IRS speak”. But folks can always use their last year paper filing as

Let them track me. GMail has gotten immensely good at filtering out spam. And I see almost no ads, thanks to Adblock and other blocking extensions.

Voice is what anchored me to the Google ecosystem! I love the advantage of free calls with good old fashioned cordless phones (linked to my Obi 100 thingy). Never a need to scramble for the cell phone that’s always in another room. But even more than that, I like having a central Voice number that people can dial —

Having been woken up more than a few times by mini fridges, one of the first things I do when settling down in a hotel room is to unplug the darn thing. So, if I were actually buying one, it would be all of Allan’s points above, plus shopping for the quietest one possible!

As a traveler, I care little if anyone is snooping my visits to CNN or BBC or Lifehacker at the airport or hotel or coffee shop. And when emailing or banking, I use Google and bank apps which encrypt traffic both ways. I am actually not overly worried about Wifi snooping, but the Opera VPN will provide an added

Anything above 3-4 days’ of travel, I pack the same (my longest trip was a seven month round the world trip from heat to snow):

Nothing against tech / gadgets, but if you are a solo traveler prone to feelings o loneliness - skip fancy hotels and opt for hostels instead. You can still select a private room, but now you also have the common area (and possibly kitchen and bar areas) to mingle. Since most everyone there are also travelers

As a 50+ year old guy, I am not concerned with abs at all. Just a flat stomach will make me happy.

As a traveler (and nothing like any CIA operator), I would not:

Nothing at all against this particular desktop, but just a general post...

I am a 55 years old who love things digital. Just about the only paper documents I have in the house are my passport and the titles to my house and car. Everything else is scanned for easy retrieval (backed up, of course).

As a home user, I think I am OK on this one. I partition my SSD into two drives: C and D. All my data files are on C. Every night, using FreeFileSync, I make a manual backup to D (which then syncs to the cloud). And every couple of days, I also make a backup from C to E (external drive). The external drive is

To guest or not to guest?

When was the Great Permian Extinction? I used the above Compaq ‘luggable’ as my office desktop back in 1989-90.

There was a time when even this was considered good enough. :)

A ponzi scheme by any other name.
