I think my X5M combines both approaches. It uses map data for speed limits as a base, but also reads speed limit signs and updates them with scary accuracy. The only flaw I’ve found so far is that it shows the school zone speed limits as the current speed limit outside of the hours when that speed limit is in effect.

That’s exactly what I do in my 2014 JGC SRT. Slam it all the way up, I’ve never ever ended up in neutral instead of park. You have to be really inattentive to do that.
