I’m with you. The whole raised by Spock’s parents seems incredibly contrived. The Federation is connection enough to TOS. There was no need to have a character history be directly related to an original cast member. We understand Star Trek. We know it’s a big place.

I gotta say, I would not want to step into any role that Leonard Nimoy played, but especially not Spock. He is incredibly underrated; his character and his performance was absolutely the anchor to that series that made the whole idea believable, and he had absolutely nothing to work from in creating the character.…
