I read that the same Lion Air 737 encountered the same AOA issue the day before the crash. Fortunately, a third pilot deadheading in the cockpit deactivated the MCAS. How did this pilot, presumably from a different carrier, know how to turn off the system yet the Lion Air crew did not?

My understanding is that two toggle switches deactivate the MCAS. When US pilots encountered problems with the system, they simply flipped the switches, carried on, and then noted the problem in their logs.

The photo reminded me of my ‘79 Ford Fiesta Ghia. It had the 1600 Kent engine which cracked heads with amazing regularity.

As if other countries have better flight training schools than the USN/USAF. There’s a reason other countries send their pilot to the U.S.

I’ve spent time at Paya Lebar. Singapore jocks are very good and they take great pride in their ability with the F-16s. Are they superior to U.S. F-35 pilots? Can they match them? IMHO, no.

I’m sure you’re right. The tragedies surrounding the 737 Max may very well be a result of the aircraft being smarter than the operators or maintenance technicians. As I understand, the right seat on Ethiopian only had 200 hours...

Singapore can buy 100 F-35’s, but those aircraft are only as capable as the training, skill and experience of the pilot.
