i went the NA-T route. I got 325 hp and 302 ft.lbs at the wheels. I honestly don’t understand why Lexus didn’t offer the 1UZ in the IS. More power, and less weight, and probably similar in gas mileage to the 2JZ
I stopped at 325 whp and 302 ft.lbs at the wheels, because I have a 5 speed. My tuner has said that the engine is capable of 400 whp on a street car, but if this was a track car, then 350 whp is a safer bet. I’m not an expert on the auto tranny, but I think with an tranny oil cooler and valve body upgrade, you…
so you’re the guy who did all that work and posted his results on my.is?
boosted is300 owner here. What are your power goals? if it’s 400whp and under, then going NA-T is cheaper and less work. Getting power out of the 2JZ engine is not the tough part. It’s finding a tranny to hold all that power reliably and at a reasonable cost. The cost of the V161 tranny is astronomical right now,…
boosted IS300 owner here. Going NA-T is cheaper and less work than going with a GTE swap, as long as you are staying under 400 whp (and that’s what I did). If you are going for big power, have you looked into the cost of a manual transmission? V161 getrags cost a shit ton now, which has in turn driven up the cost of…
So if I were to turbo my ‘03 IS300 it would be cheaper/safer to just buy a GTE and swap it?
It’s actually easier thanks you think. More often though, people just opt for a thicker head gasket and convert it to NA-T. That’s the cheapest and most effective alternative.
Dodge missed a golden opportunity to partner with NHRA and encourage owners to take these to the track, not race them on the street.
Man, forget NASCAR and its participation trophy stage racing. Forget Formula One and how even the drivers don’t give…
Under $1,000 for a fun restoration project? Sign me up. These things are few and far-between these days, so I sure hope someone snaps it up to return it to its former glory.
In digging through the results a bit further, one surprise sticks out: the brand-new Acura NSX did something that…
2576 lb/ft of torque at 35 rpm. I’m calling it right now, the Demon is diesel/electric.
The number of production models that will be totaled at 35 mph leaving Cars and Coffee.
