That was unequivocal.

Yea I don’t necessarily agree with that display but the rules regarding blue flags are clear: get the fuck out of the way. It’s not the first time a driver has flipped off another for ignoring the blue flags.

There’s no traction control but the DRS is definitely pretty artificial. Unfortunately, I don’t see it going anywhere. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t think it really does too much for the racing so I can take it or leave it. There’s multiple examples this season of drivers using DRS and not passing the leading

I follow WEC and WRC, but not much else. WRC cars are really nothing like F1. WEC cars really aren’t either in terms of design but technology wise the LMP1-H class is currently using a somewhat similar setup although I do know the restrictions are significantly different.

It’s almost trickle down economics, if you will. Obviously right now, the technology used in Formula 1 is prohibitively expensive for road cars. I believe each F1 car costs between $10 million and $15 million. That being said, the thermal efficiency of Formula 1 cars is now something like 55%. By contrast, a Prius is

They’re just going to opt to take the penalty. A 30 second pit lane delta means that they lost 20 MORE seconds in the race than if they just take the penalty for telling the driver outright while he’s on track. Unless they realize that they can kill two birds and pit the driver to change tires or make a wing

Unfortunately, there’s no way Nico Rosberg’s ass could have told him that his transmission was in danger of failing if he used seventh gear. There’s also no way it told him he had a brake failure at the end of the Austrian GP. Some things can’t be felt. Hamilton found himself in a similar situation at the 2014

Well that kind of helps my point because LMP (LMP1 in particular) is the only class where the cars are nearly as complex as F1. Even road cars are moving toward being this complex. Everyone saying “I remember in the 80s when the F1 cars were manual and had two buttons on the steering wheel” is missing the point.

Formula 1 has always been the pinnacle of driving AND engineering. The drivers aren’t engineers so no, they don’t know how to set up and diagnose problems with the cars themselves. It’s incredible they even know what all of the buttons on the steering wheel do. There has to be over 1,000 different settings controlled

Agreed. This latest crackdown is unnecessary. I don’t think it was reasonable to expect Rosberg to know that he had to shift through seventh and his question was reasonable given that the car has eight gears and to get to eight, you have to go through seven. The difference between saying avoid going through seven

I personally don’t agree with them getting information about tire wear and fuel and when to coast because it seemed like it was constant. Anything to do with an eminent failure should be relayed to the driver. The cars are extremely complex. I think this new rule that forces them to duck into the pits is just insane.

Well last year it was getting ridiculous with the engineers telling the drivers about brake temperatures and tire wear and save fuel from this corner to this corner but then accelerate for four seconds before a three second coast and a six second application of the brakes. Obviously, that’s a bit of hyperbole, but

And every time I read that these images cover an area of the sky the size of a tennis ball held at 100 meters away, I’m staggered by the vastness of it all. It’s incredible that almost all of the over 5,000 spots of light in that image are galaxies. Truly awesome.

I agree 100% with that point. Hopefully they can continue to be a launch pad for the sport’s up and coming although as I said, I don’t think the top brass are worth keeping around.

Kaltenborn needed to get the axe. I’ve heard that there were actually other interested investors (including Ferrari, who wanted to re-brand the team Alfa Romeo) but she didn’t want her role reduced and they backed out as a result. Obviously this is hearsay, but I don’t doubt it’s true. She’s not proven that she’s at

They WERE a good team, they aren’t now. Force India has financial troubles as well and manage to punch well above their weight. Granted, they are not as mired in debt as Sauber but the point stands.

I read that it doesn’t matter if Bernie signed a contract with Imola since the man who has the final say is not going to allow the race to move. In fact, I believe he even said that Italian law would prevent it moving to Imola. Why not just ditch Yas Marina from the calendar and bring back the San Marino GP?

It’s a good thing all 799 of these will likely be garage queens lest we have a highlight reel of rich people with more arrogance than skill parking them in ditches and trees.

You guys have some definition of a beautiful day. Was like stepping out of my front door and into the seventh circle of hell earlier today...

Well, I wouldn’t say the drivers of today are any less skilled, even if the politics of the sport prevents them from really having distinct personalities. I agree that the laxity in the rules made things a bit more exciting in the 80s but of the 9 races so far this season, I’d say 6 have been fantastic. Mercedes might
