    I realize that this ship has long since sailed, but I wanted to note that I can’t think of any other traditional article of men’s clothing that sacrifices functionality and ease-of-use as drastically as does bar-lacing. It doesn’t make sense to me that a traditional closed-lacing shoe, with eyelets pierced

    He has that precisely backwards. An oxford has *closed* lacing. If it had open lacing, it would be a derby or blucher.
