It’s not theft. Hertz already has their payment information on file and has given them a reservation. Anything else is to prevent those who do not have payment info or a reservation from taking them. Unless the contract that is part of that reservation says different, the renters held up their part and it was Hertz

*ba-dum-pish*

Olé!

My first thought also! Never let a silly thing like causing a major publicity nightmare get in the way of some good ole’ customer abuse!

How many people did this?

The most surprising part about all of this is that Hertz didn’t try to immediately arrest all of the customers.

But not innocent. Fraud is a choice. Bankruptcy or rip off my clients.

In 2022 Claassen hired CPR to sell his 1970 Porsche 911 on consignment after his wife was diagnosed with dementia; the car was a gift from her. They agreed to sell it for $135,000 with a 10-percent commission.

I feel like so many of these restoration and tuner companies end up in hot water, it is weird.

And it’s fair to ask the question if you don’t understand, but this is why we don’t make reactionary decisions based on information we don’t understand. Public Safety, like any good system should have backups that are extremely reliable, and if anything, just more and more and more different types of backups. AM fits

It’s just so exhausting to have to explain this over and over, isn’t it? The entire g-d point of having something like AM radio around is that cell phones won’t fucking work during a true disaster/emergency, yet people keep shouting “yOu CaN juSt dO iT On YOuR PHoNe!!! It’s as ridiculous as someone arguing that it’s

Can I ask why?

Too many morons out there thinking their DRLs are functional as headlights and also do not know they also do not turn on their tail lights.

It’s typical for cell phones to become useless in many emergency situations, especially with events like natural disasters. AM has much greater coverage and dependability when it comes to critical information and updates. Not being the mainstream way during regular day to day activity doesn’t mean it’s not a vital

they do and I have seen them tor like $12, buying the guts by the millions a year I am sure puts the cost per in the low single digit cost. So that 3.8 billion dollar number is total horse shit. At the end of the day the actual cost of keeping it in a vehicle is NOTHING compared to the cost of an entire vehicle. Shit

Hurricane zones disagree with relying on cell phones. Just a few months ago, the entire Houston area lost power for 3-10 days, depending on the location. That included major losses in cell service and at least 1 cable provider going down as far away as Austin. AM radio still worked. Tons of people in hurricane areas

I mean, so’s the lower end of the FM band.

It wouldn't be possible to fit it into a cell phone because of the necessary antenna.

Agreed. The fact that nearly nobody has an AM radio anywhere but in their car and that it might be the last lifeline in the event of something tragic - it seems like a reasonable expectation that all cars would continue to have it.

First of all, I always take cost estimates like those with a large grain of salt. “3.8 billion dollars between now and 2030" parceled out over an estimated 85 million cars sold between 2025 and 2030 (17 million per year) is about $45 per car. Not the end of the world. Also not the use of the word “could,” not “would.”
