Lower weight = better power to weight ratio. Is it a deal breaker? No. But an M3 needs to be a rounded package. It’s not a weekend car. When I’m driving a DD, I want mindless easy power.

I owned an e90 M3 for several years and it was my DD. Trust me, I already know all about it. You and I both know the compromises of this package. The engine is a work of art, but the car itself should be lighter.

No doubt. Downside of a high strung motor is mostly daily driving. Otherwise, I strongly prefer to work an engine than have easy power.

The s65 motor is incredible. It’s a misconception that it was some big heavy unit - it’s actually lighter than the s54 from the e46. When revved, the intake noise is positively exotic — and it loves to rev.

Most definitely. The resources for Porsche owners with Rennlist and Pelican, etc etc. are incredible. There is no problem that you can encounter that hasn’t been discussed to death, blueprinted and DIY’ed with pictures and a step by step guide. It’s awesome.

Besides all the plastic BS, the 991/992 are a little more mid-engined than the air cooled and early water cooled cars which are distinctly rear engine, behind the axle. That also makes them a little more inaccessible, I think.

Depends on the part. Some parts are scarce and only available as a remanufactured part.

Does it really matter? These are muscle cars. Most, verging on all, sports cars nowadays are muscle cars. None have any real amount of nuance or feel to them anymore. Subtlety doesn’t sell and it’s hard to do nowadays. Power is relatively easy and cheap - and it distorts everything else into insignificance.

Apropos of nothing -- “Roborace” reads as “Robo-rache” in my head. As in Robot Liberace.

Ugh, I hate it. Looks like a Hyundai ripoff of an 8 series. The pillbox style windshield slits are a nice touch. Pretty soon, cars won’t have windshields at all.

People are always trying to make the 996 happen. It’s not going to happen. The truth cannot be denied. It is, and always will be, an ugly car.

I never actually noticed that before.

W140. She had a W126 before that which was a better car, IMO.

This is one of my favorite cars of all time.

If I had to give advice, knowing what I know now, it would be to buy the best possible example you can afford. This car can cost a fortune to maintain in parts costs alone.

It’s going to sound like white-knighting here, but I’m a doctor and I really don’t mind patients who research. I try to steer them away from crowd-sourced info and more towards reliable sources. I’d rather have a patient who at least attempts an intellectual investment in their health.

If anyone tries to pull that garbage about the Confederacy being about anything other than slavery, reference the “Cornerstone Speech” by Alexander Stephens, the VP of the Confederacy.

Goddammit, you magnificent bastard.

Photoshopped shrinkage. It’s definitely a little better. The bones are there for a decent looking car.
