This. I hated the story, gave up on it early. It never made sense to me; this and One More Day made Marvel dead to me.

I came to io9 when Rob Bricken joined up. I was blown away by the site and all the wondrous new things I was exposed to. I got exposed to new books among other things (hello Ancillary novels!) and a lot of enjoyment. I had a feeling Charlie Jane was leaning to full-time novelist and when io9 was subsumed into Gizmodo…
Won’t get an e-reader unless the books I bought on paper from the company are automatically included.
Dave Cockrum was, I believe, the artist who actually designed the costumes for the “All New, All Different X-Men” in Giant-Size X-men #1. He is co-credited for creating several of the characters. He had a flair for costumes and is for me one of the underrrated comic artists. Interesting that none of the comments so…
I’ve been thinking a lot about him as a musician today. One of the reasons it hit me hard is that he stood in opposition to the way popular music is done now. He was more than competent in any musical genre you could name, played almost any instrument, and didn’t allow himself to be pigeonholed. Diversity is life,…
Good god! How did I miss this til today? I didn’t get a little teary about losing Prince til I started watching this video. What a showman.
It is so hard to process this. I have always leaned on music to help me deal with the rough spots in life, and to celebrate the good parts. Prince and Bowie were great for both. And now, to lose in one year two of the artists that spoke to those who were different, who said and showed that the oddballs and weirdos…
Fine. G-Fan for 50 years here. I have to say this does not give me the warm fuzzies. The first shot of its head looks like a hand puppet (it may be a homage to the one used in the 1954 film, but come on). That tail is ridiculously out of proportion. It wagging Godzilla would be more like it. Time to re-watch the 90's…
Interesting to see this trailer for the first time, right after seeing the new Suicide Squad trailer - and hearing Ballroom Blitz again.
Wow. He is the exemplar of the adage that music keeps one young.
There. Fixed it for me. <sigh>
Upstate NY is nice. Due to a depressed economy homes and rents are relatively cheap. And there are Wegmans supermarkets! Mmmmm, Wegmans.
Great books. My daughter read them over and over.
Travolta wants foil on the windows because his ego is so large it pushes the foil hats off his head.
With that land-walking blobfish? No thanks.
All of these were in the movie. If you can find a copy, check out “The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island,” from Weta Workshop. It’s a wonderful book full of great art and neat background info. Read that and you’ll never want to set foot on that island; Carnictis isn’t the only creepy creature.
The story that chills me the most is by Clifford D. Simak, “Huddling Place.” For me, it foresees humanity (ie technologically advanced humanity) becoming more and more homebound, less willing or able to even leave home, even to possibly save civilization as in the story. This sounds like civilization-wide agoraphobia.…
I picked up the first one due to reading about it here. Your writers have pointed me to several great reads (the latest being Wake of Vultures by Lila Bowen). I haven’t found a reliable place to get referrals for books in a while, and if one fallout from Hogan’s court victory is to lose this one I’ll be ticked.
Gonna miss this. iO9 was great.
Nice list to start with, but come on! “An elderly Asian man?” Give some respect to the great and powerful James Hong, one of those actors that light up every film they’re in!
