Absolutely. When we're dealing purely with aesthetics, fantastic art direction will trump technical shortcomings any day. Especially if that art direction heads in a more whimsical direction. As you said, basically the more realistic the game, the worse it's gonna age. Wind Waker will age wonderfully, while

It has been my experience that 3D graphics don't age nearly as gracefully as 2D sprites. Every time I revisit my old N64 favorites it gets slightly more difficult, and the rose-tinted glasses get increasingly more difficult to put on. Meanwhile SNES and even NES graphics may seem simplistic at times, but the

Trying...to think....of original....Star Wars/Zelda....joke........errghghhh......

Shhhh....let me have this moment.

I just finished 3-starring every puzzle in Picross 3D. All 369 of 'em. Damn. What a great little puzzle game.

Who's got two thumbs that no one can see and is excited for 3DS impressions fresh outta Japan? This guy.

That's encouraging to hear. I probably won't get a chance to pick it up before this summer, but it sounds promising.

I think Uncharted 2 is an amazingly successful example of a player character spouting off one-liners at opportune moments, but the silent protagonist really does work well for a wide variety of genres. It really boils down to the kind of story you're trying to tell. If anything, I don't want Chell to talk in Portal

E.T. sold over one million copies??

It's an indie game made by one guy that became a cultural phenomenon and sold over a million copies, all while there's been a free version available online (that's pretty damn fun). Just because the story doesn't feature explosions and giant robots doesn't mean it shouldn't be told. Did you watch the 20 minute clip?

School's mascot, perhaps?

ohmygodohmygodohmygod I really want to read this but I want Portal 2 to be completely unspoiled for me more. I read the first few paragraphs and the last one and that was more than enough to confirm to me Totilo's approval. Goddamn. I haven't been this excited for a game in a while.

This?

Quick! Everyone post a clever image macro!

Yeah, I got it now, thanks. I misread it =P

Ahhh....rereading it I think you're right. They're saying the PS3 version will only be sold at retail, and not on PSN or something.

"This year it is releasing its first game for the PlayStation 3, a version of the action-puzzle game Portal 2, which will only be sold at retail."

Thanks for the link! Was wondering if it was live streaming anywhere...

This and Bulletstorm.....is this the year FPS's stop striving to be ultra-realistic and start focusing on fun once again? I've been pretty burnt out by the FPS genre as of late, but these look different and refreshing. Bright colors, a sense of humor, neither are a sequel pumped out in a year or two.....
