Cheap city car based EVs are what you would be looking for. Dead simple operation. Less weight then the long range EV’s so components are a LOT less stressed and can last a long time with simple maintenance.

E-bikes are an exception to this. That gets people out of some dangerous spots that rim brakes couldn’t due to the benefit of added clamping force. It also pulls the brake surface out of the elements that a rim can get into.

One of the more interesting things I’ve seen was a CVT in the rear hub. It used a larger grooved ball and a smaller grooved one that indexed across it to give gearing variances. It was controlled by a hand crank tho. It was a manual, however it has “unlimited” gearing.

I REALLY wish they used closed-cell foam for this. The area I live has exceptional humidity and the tires can and do get water in them over air refills over time. The open-cell foam degrades and gums up faster then the tires wear and cause balance issues.  It’s really fun...
