Ugh.  Any bit of attractiveness she might possess is completely trumped by how annoying she is.

Since you mentioned Charlotte Rae, did anyone else notice that one of the four old ladies that Max laid into in the opening was none other than Mary Jo Catlett, who played housekeeper Pearl on Diff'rent Strokes?

This show is not great, but I would give it a big edge over Whitney, simply because this show does not feature Whitney.

I agree that Whitney is like Friends…..if none of the Friends were likable, and none of the jokes were funny.  The biggest criticism of Whitney isn't that it isn't like the other sitcoms that precede it.  It's that the show is painfully unfunny…Whitney is a screeching harpy, her boyfriend is a doofus, and the

Community up 6%, Whitney down 24%….finally the world starts to make sense again.

It might be the worst show I have ever seen.   Stale jokes, forced delivery, and not a likable character in the bunch, and of course, the obtrusive, way-too-loud laugh track.  (Watch an episode of HIMYM to see how to subtly use a laugh track effectively).  That being said, I feel strangely compelled to watch it again
