Basically, Johnson had to do everything he could to code Holdo as “The Bitch” so he could have his big gotcha moment, even though Poe had no problem serving under a woman in TFA.

Poe was demoted for successfully following through on Leia’s previously agreed upon plan to destroy the “fleet killer” dreadnought which would have tracked the rebels through hyperspace and murdered them all.
