They don’t have to go cheaper. Uber is already jacking up the prices the second there is any real demand. That means at peaks time non-stupid people are looking for cabs.

Those million dollar medallions were beneficial to the taxi companies for years and essentially created a monopoly. The taxi companies WANTED those prices high to keep out competition.

That doesn’t even make sense. If uber is charging too much the cabs should respond by trying to meet the demand. If they give better service with a cheaper price there is no way uber would be able to compete.
