I quite liked the Lapis episode. It was a good subversion of the show’s tropes, showing that sometimes you can’t fix everything with an emotional song. I like Lapis but she’s a deeply broken individual and I think her emotional journey is too difficult to resolve by just putting the barn on the beach.

Hilariously one of the musicians is wearing a shirt on Rebbeca Sugar’s instagram that is supposed to depict all the Crystal Gems’ gems.
Oh, and those silhouettes in “Can’t Go Back” were the most Utena silhouettes that ever silhouetted.
A whole damn lot to unpack, and I want to rewatch both episodes. But at this moment I want to point out that the episode did a nice, subtle job of explaining where Pearl’s habit of wide-eyed, hands-over-mouth panic response to dangerous questions originated.
