My ‘65 Chevy pickup with a three on the tree was miserable to shift. The linkage would bind if you didn’t jiggle it right shifting between first and second. You’d have to get under the truck and free it. If someone stole it they’d have to make their escape if 1st gear.

My dad had a brand new 1966 Chevelle Super Sport with the 396. My Mom drove a 1964 Impala Super Sport. I never went anywhere slow as a kid! 

Came here to post this. The 03-06 have the 3.8 engine and a bulletproof transmission. A nice one, without mods can be found for $6,000 in Northern California all day long. I picked up this 03 with 122k miles for $4k.

Grab a Montero! You can find a rust free version out here in California for $1,000. I got this 95 for $300! Or, step up and get the Gen 3 (2001-2006) for around $4K and you’ll have a car that is still in production around the world. Plus, Mitsubishi has the best online group I’ve ever been a part of. Ask Andrew.
