Oh I totally agree, on all counts. However, since that question is asked, you should know the answer. And I think you should know the sexuality of the person who you are with, but this is my opinion on proper behavior. The only non-opinion reason I have for knowing is because of blood donation.

You should know if the man you are with has had male sexual contact. One of the blood donation questions asks if you have had sexual contact with men who have had sex with men. That's about the only reason I see that it matters- is for health questions.
