Is it weird that I really wanted a burger after the episode ended?

God, IF ONLY!
No offense to Olivia Swann, who had some AMAZING moments last season, but I felt Astra’s absence was the key to why I enjoyed this episode so much. All too often over the last two seasons, the show has felt less like Legends of Tomorrow, than like a bonus season of Constantine guest-starring some randos on a time…
I wish that ZariCat was in the totem with Zari Prime
Was it me or did Gary curtsey to Amelia Earheart?
Snow White: “Oh, my prince! Your true love’s kiss has awakened me from my slumber! We can only be meant for one another!”
Prince: “Oh man, you’re alive? Uh, I mean, great. That’s great. Hey, so, I’m just gonna bounce, see you.”
There’s something almost transgressive about showing us a Mothra-like beastie but giving it Godzilla’s voice.
Maybe he knows the burgers aren’t actually beef, so it was just the once?
That’s a great point, I loved Not-Laurel and Charlie but was was less into their earlier iterations. (Amaya was still good, just not Charlie-level good.)
I’m thinking of Spooner as a Mick-replacement. In that case, “Shoot first, ask questions never,” is definitely the kind of thing we’d want to have stick around. You need at least one murder-hobo on the crew.
Weirdly enough, I think the “production seams” actually added to the 1950s-kitsch aesthetic of the whole thing.
There’s something magical about how Tala Ashe has been able to create two distinct characters that I genuinely miss Zari 1.0 and get excited whenever she reappears. Not sure if I could say the same thing for Laurel or Amaya.
The Zari 1.0 cameo was, of course, delightful; Zari 2.0 is also growing on me. I’m still not overly fond of the new character, who seems too antagonistic and aggressive, but whatever. And the Big Belly Burger origin story was a fun shoutout for a decade of Arrowverse stories.
“Aliens are an irresistable foodstuff” for me conjures up Futurama’s Popplers.
That was the Big Belly Burger origin story I never knew I needed, thanks Legends!
This week in Sara Is The Best: she didn’t have much to do this week, unfortunately, but apparently she was indirectly responsible for the founding of Big Belly Burger (by releasing the aliens), so that’s pretty cool. Also, the fact that she hasn’t murdered Gary yet is admirable.
This episode is stylish as hell. (So are the costumes!)
A fun episode. Jes Macallan as Ava is so much the heart of the show now & is totally up to it. She is welcoming Spooner onto the team that she once was so hostile to.
If we’re talking influences, the plot (at least for the first two thirds) feels a lot like the Teen Titans episode Employee of the Month, which was also about a fast food restaurant becoming a craze for a menu item that turns out to be an alien product.
Also, Behrad’s ding ding eyebrow raise was a wonderful bit
