When the lead heroes have superhuman powers (or special equipment that gives them the equivalent of superhuman powers) which they use to fight bad guys in over-the-top fight scenes, I’d say you’ve got a superhero story. Add in distinctive outfits and/or codenames, and there should be no question.

Traditionally, Superwoman is the name used by Lois Lane on the occasions when a plot device gives her superpowers.

Well, assuming Lex lives through the Crisis, that’ll be a pretty big development for Supergirl.

The show was at its best when, except for Damon, most of the characters were fundamentally good people who found themselves, again and again, in these morally murky situations requiring horrible actions. Even before the superhero movie boom began, there were plenty of uber-successful movies that were basically superhero flicks, just nobody called them that: Men In Black, The Matrix, Terminator 2, even Ghostbusters.

Also, Marvel movies already make plenty of humorous digs at their heroes and frequently highlight their flaws. The less seriously a story takes itself, the harder it is to make fun of it.

Though they are lucky enough to know before the season begins that it’s going to be their last.
