I just wish/hope that more of them hew closer to the L4D formula and avoid classes/character abilities (for the protagonists, anyway), and definitely avoid any sort of level grind nonsense. L4D is still playable because of its simplicity. Don’t gild the lily.

There are sites like archive.org where people upload collections of ROMs because they want to preserve and share them there. So that blows this whole "but he needed to be able to afford to run the website" argument I keep seeing out of the water.

It sounds like his full-time job was taking other people’s work and selling it for his own profit.  This wasn’t even a case of operating an archive to access materials no longer in print. As the screenshot shows, the most popular roms and downloads on the page were mostly same-year releases.

Yeah, I'm very much in favor of emulation for the preservation of gaming as an art form, so I was nervous to see the headline. But fuck this guy and his stupid life choices, he earned that verdict.

As much as I support keeping old games alive via emulation, especially for games that we all know are never going to see a rerelease, everything this guy in particular did seemed to be stupid decisions.
