Back in the 90s criticisms of youth culture weren’t viewed as so reactionary and so could find their place amongst thoughtful liberal conversation. Nowadays criticising TikTok, social contagions (not Trans stuff to be clear but actual social contagions), hyper consumerist “activism” and general poptimism is viewed as

I realize that discussing this with a writer who was a child when Spring Breakers was released and who wasn’t even born when Kids was is maybe not productive, but as someone who was an adult when both movies were released there really was a difference in reception. People were genuinely shocked by Kids and thought it

Did AVClub just publish an interesting retrospective essay that isn’t clickbait about some topic-of-the-day?? Does The Herb know you snuck this through?

And let’s not forget the violence that was probably drilled into her in military school as well. All Ellie has ever known in her life has been connected to violence in one way or another is the violent world she was born into and never had a parent to protect her from it (except for Marlene who was almost always super

I think you really missed the thread on game Ellie. She’s always been drawn to violence. Her trauma after killing the hunter to save Joel was a matter of suddenly facing the reality of violence, vs the fantasy she’d been living with for so long.

Yikes. Another terrible take from you. Do you watch the show trying to be upset? You shouldn't watch it like it IS the game. Its an adaptation to a new medium.

I am not sure I agree with this take - I don’t think Ellie “likes” violence for violence sake - I think she, like many characters who tend to be violent, is drawn to it because of the power it allows her to feel over a world in which she had largely been powerless. I don’t think its unreasonable to assume that many in

Kotaku reached out to ask how it would be enforced

I feel like Covid isn’t the real virus of concern at these events.

I would have thought a giant furry mask would be as good as a flimsy paper one

damn. A COVID outbreak there could cripple the entire IT infrastructure of the USA.

While I do think the last episode was completely necessary for the beats of this episode, this episode reminded me what was so great about the first season. We often have these shows be about people fighting their inner darkness while the central aspect of our three main characters is that they are all decent people

I know! I said the same thing. Something like, “wow, great job on the tongue!”

Pretty amusing because I remember thinking to myself while watching that scene: “that’s a really good CG giraffe” lol

Our local zoo has a “giraffe observation deck” that extends into the pen right at giraffe height. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend booping a giraffe’s snoot.

The reason it looked so CG to a lot of people is because of the digital effects they added to the video for compositing and lighting.

When I was a little kid, a giraffe at the zoo lifted me at least 1,5 meters above the ground (5 feet?), before gently putting me down.

Giraffes are awesome. That’s all I have to add.

Still one of the best looking series on television. That remarkable tracking shot to the boxing club when the ring came into view, two pugilists going after it, the lighting and shadows, I thought it looked like a George Bellows painting come to life which I don’t think was an accident.

This is where I always went with it. This is the first time this ever happened, so how do they know they have to kill her to get a cure? Wouldn’t you try different things first and then let her be part of the decision in the end? By knocking her out and never giving her a choice and trying different methods first, it
