They have nothing in common, other than that they have a girl, and at one point she becomes "gone." It's like comparing Preminger's Exodus with Moses's Exodus.

But having heard that, I still am not convinced that that's exactly what's going on. It makes the most sense, but I think there are other things that would suggest other interpretations. But thanks for 1) answering my complaint and 2) taking my whining so well. :)

Every time someone says "There is an obvious interpretation to _____" they rarely follow that up with said interpretation. So I'm saying, what, Clayton, is the correct interpretation of Mulholland Drive?"

It probably sounds more sarcastic than genuine. I meant it to be read in Walter Brennan's voice.

That is one of the good ones. There are only about four for me, one of which is "Peter you aren't eating those suppositories are you?" "Nah, I'm shovin em up my butt, whaddya think I'm doin?" That's a great joke no two ways about it.

More often than is sane or reasonable, when it's night I tell people "There's a moon in the sky. And it's called the moon." I have never once said that to someone who had any clue what I was talking about.

Not to mention The Wild Bunch. Peckinpah considered this his favorite movie.

OOOOH weee what a good movie. That's all I have to say.

Not sure I agree with you 100% on your police work there Lou.

Again, pedophilia has and always will be icky, so I fail to see how that is relevant.

I don't think that in the 60's pedophilia was any less icky than it is now, especially considering that the source novel dealt with that explicitly.

I didn't know who Junior Brown was until today. I guess I know where my next pay check is going.

Lost Highwy (1997), Mulholland Drive (2001), Inland Empire (2006).

Made my dad go to Harry Potter land in Orlando, FL. He enjoyed the butter beer at least.

Song of Storms, obviously.

So glad that Swan Song got mentioned.

Salute your shorts.

I agree. I just don't think it is a universal standard like some people seem to think.

Oh don't get me wrong, that joke has one hell of a lot of truth. I just get chafed by seeing it used as a rubric.

Actually, it was only a joke in the first place, not meant to be anything more than a joke.
