Turns out it was so simple:  Graphite tips on the control rods and no containment vessels.  Got it!

Shoutout to the dope in the comments on yesterday’s morning shift who tried to say that the only way for our society to progress is for the government to force people to behave correctly. Like they are going to be benevolent in that role.

What an ingenious way to tax the people.  Manufacture civil violations.

Looks a lot more like Sbarro than Koenigsegg.

This comment actually made my reading these comments feel like it’s 72 degrees in my head

WE BEAT PENICILLIN!

Having been born in Kiew in 1988 and with one parent coming almost from Chernobyl itself I might be able to add a little detail to this discussion.

Another detail I never tire of relaying: they interviewed the composer of the soundtrack (which is itself utterly phenomenal), and she revealed that the entire soundtrack (excepting the songs and whatnot) is made up of field recordings she made from a sister plant (might even have been Ignalia). So the soundtrack is li

BINGO.

It’s all very well saying you can find Russian actors - sure, you can. But then you have five massive problems:

First few minutes into the first episode and I was kind of annoyed there was no Russian accents, but giving it a little thought, ya, even if some these actors are good with accents, a bunch of British people (and a Swede) doing faux-Russian accents would be a bit silly.

Agreed. And show is fantastic.

I knew Julia Child would win, the only one with butter.

A little correction Jason, as a ex-Lada owner and a guy living in an ex-Communist country - Moskvich 2140 was never a step up from the the 2101, even though it launched 6 years after the Lada. The Moskvitch was an utter shite car, the 2101 was a much more modern design, just by association of being a Fiat 124

It would be distracting if they all sounded like Boris and Natasha.

Honestly, I think they came out looking pretty good too. And I’ve always thought that if you’re taking the time to notice things like architectural details in the background, at least on the first watch, then you’re probably not invested in the story. I can understand that if they’re really jarring, like they tried to

I agree. I think Death of Stalin was brilliant in having the actors not change their accents at all, so you had American and British accents coming from people who were playing Russians, but it didn’t matter because Russians wouldn’t be speaking English with Russian accents anyway.

You’ll notice that there’s actually not a huge variety of cars, compared to what we’re used to in the West.

Liquor boards are there to make damn sure we are all aware that government power can be exercised arbitrarily and capriciously.
