The Ford Ecosport out selling the Mazda3 has got to be the final confirmation needed that the end times are upon us.

in the case of rollovers the Model Y is best in class thanks to physics. the issue with most SUVs and rollover is the raised center of gravity but with heavy batteries slung under the car and no engine at the front to tilt it the center of gravity in any EV SUV is far lower. you might actually have a better chance…
I mean, it’s cool I guess, but you can buy a brand-new double-wide mobile home for $100,000. And it would have, you know, house things. Like a toilet. And a real shower.
They pay too much for used cars, then try to sell them for too much. They were too slow to react to the sales plummet. They kept buying EVERYTHING and apparently haven’t stopped. They’ll end up having to sell most of it for a loss.
Yeah, so Carmax’s slowdown is evident. I live next to what must be one of the larger CarMax locations in the region (Fort Worth, Tx) and that lot is PACKED. They’ve even started parking cars in the Walmart lot as overflow. I’ve never seen that in the history of that Carmax, usually it’s just a revolving door of sales.…
I hope they figure this all out. Best car buying experience I have ever had. So nice to stay away from the dealership pricks in Illinois who still use the oldest, worst tactics ever to sell cars.
I have purchased 4 vehicles through Carvana over the last 5-6 years and generally my experience has been very good. But I did note that this last one was a lot more convoluted and time consuming than prior purchases - and I think that is tied to trying to solve their very public title transfer challenges.
Everyone in your replies seems to be skipping the “pennies on the dollar” in your statement. However, I think the only cautionary business tale is ‘don’t invest in used car salesmen that have a well-known track record for fraud’
Fuck all the auto groups.
I bought a car from them, with a trade on the same transaction and it was a wonderful experience. They brought the car to my house to test drive while they confirmed the condition of my trade, then signed the paperwork in my driveway while they loaded up my trade and took it away. So much better than a traditional…
The business model is inevitable.
This is gonna devastate the used car market....I’m thrilled!
Thing is, this business should have been a total no-brainer money-maker. The used car market is ripe for a major roll-up. They could have been Carmax with much lower overhead (no need for large retail shops and lots of sales staff). The whole notion of buying and financing your car hassle-free online, getting it…
The value proposition was to avoid having to deal with used car salesmen, shopping for a loan, visiting car lots. In 10 minutes on an iPhone, you can have a like new used car in your driveway in 5-7 days, registered, insured and financed. If you don’t like it, return it a week later.
I did it twice and it was a great…
No worries, the owners already cashed out billions in summer ‘21 when the stock was $300+. Hoocoodanode: a hegemonic family of used car salesmen would s—t the bed and leave everyone else to clean it up
I can’t help but wonder how much of this is self-selecting - people buy cars for the reputation of reliability, and both subject the car to good maintenance (that aids longevity), and are more willing to spend for the occasional big ticket repair rather than getting rid of it (because, you know, it’s a reliable car!…
...SO I TIED AN ONION TO MY BELT, WHICH WAS THE STYLE AT THE TIME. THEY DIDN’T HAVE WHITE ONIONS BECAVSE OF THE WAR...
Syril, you dumb bastard. I was wrong to call Syril “Brownshirt Javert.”” Javert was eventually able to recognize the injustice of the system he supported. Syril still doesn’t realize he’s on the wrong side even after seeing the Empire slaughter innocent people. I will now call Syril “fascist Smithers.”
Also gotta love that Brasso got to clock some stormtroopers with Maarva’s Brick! What a send-off. Her actual bodily remains got to punch some fascists.
Maybe this could be a chance to just, you know, stop buying things we don’t need? If people stop paying crazy markups, prices come down. If people stop spending, inflation goes down. I know it’s not as simple as all that, but we gotta start somewhere.
