My husband is a writer of children’s fantasy fiction. If the protaganist is a girl, it’s considered a “girl’s book.” Girls will read books featuring boys or girls. Boys are usually only attracted to books featuring a male protaganist. This is the reasons that is still used in the book biz to this day...
