Haha, Minority Report was the first thing I thought of. Seriously, this needs to go the Supreme court. This HAS to violate a basic right of due process, ie paying for a crime that someone else might commit.

What’s funny about this is a lot of the new “Keyless” push button start cars will still drive around without the key fob in the vehicle. So how do you argue that to the officer. “My cars just warming up! I didn’t leave the keys in it!”

My 2016 STI won’t lock its doors if running without the fob. But it will drive down…

Yeah, this is basically pre-cognition victim blaming. I love people defending this as “it’s the law, nyah nyah.” It’s a law that punishes you for someone else potentially breaking the law at an undisclosed point in the future. What that is, is bullshit.

The law is clear. Leaving a running vehicle on a “highway” is illegal. It doesn’t say anything about vehicles on private property.

I literally had no idea this was a law until this morning... so no, it’s not clear.
