That was basically part of the defense the district offered as to why the schools shouldn’t integrate, because the whites and rich blacks will attend private schools, causing one segregated and poorly funded school that sucks so bad even the middle class blacks will want to leave.

There are legitimate reasons to oppose one large school that don’t have anything to do with race (reduced opportunities on teams and organizations, the histories of the two schools, etc., dilution of parent input), but yea, the district must be well enough funded to have fought this case on and off for 50 years.

That was poorly explained, because the Cleveland High School is in fact integrated (50/50). The problem was that the East High School was all black and did not receive the same maintenance and upkeep.
