It’s amazing how much profit it built into a piece of molded plastic with a few ultra bright LEDs.  There’s no way that Toyota’s cost is $1400 when they build ~100K of these per year.  I bet this think is marked up by 10x.

No doubt insurance companies are screwing their customers, but I wonder if auto makers have ever considered making cars **cheaper to repair**.  Spend some engineering dollars to figure out how to make the car more modular, easier to repair, etc.  We do not need bumpers that get destroyed in a 2 mph grocery store

Overall I like it. I like that they’re taking risks with the design that are not totally ugly. Way better than the latest iteration of the 99.9% Volvo-esque Polestar2, which just slapped a boring, flat panel on the front instead of doing *anything* interesting with the grille area.

Those wheels are *so* bad ... and the interior needs to be gutted + reupholstered at this price.

A few points:

This car is pretty cool, but I can’t see any company starting to import a 2-door mini-cooper sized hatchback into the USA anytime in the next decade. It would also come at a massive price disadvantage since it’s not built in the US.

Yeah, but since it has no clutch pedal or shifter I guess it will emulate only automatic-transmission equipped GTI’s of the past!

Yeah VW routed the fuel coolant through the headlight fluid distribution manifold. It was a pain in the ass and would cause the headlight fluid to go over pressure and eventually boil. The fix was to replace the fuel coolant lines with rigid perspex tubes, or to replace the xenon gas in the headlights with argon,

+1

They could literally put a body + (front-only) interior kit on a bronco sport, mark up the price to like $65K and it would be a huge hit.

Sure, Australia rejected Qatar Airlines, but they’re no model of perfection, either. Qatar Airlines is owned 100% by the Qatari government. The Qatari government practices Sharia law, which includes flogging for adultery and alcohol consumption. (Yet, I assume they somehow serve alcohol on their airplanes???). The

The US government lost $11.2B in the bailout process. The Original GM that went out of business was allowed to go bankrupt without repaying US Gov’t loans. The new company that took on the name “GM” and all the good assets might have paid some US Gov’t loans back with interest, but overall it did cost US Taxpayers to

Those specs are for the gas version, I bet the battery will add 500-1000lbs, so I’ll go with your original estimate until they publish better!

True! The farm subsidies for ethanol sure aren’t going stop even if 100% of vehicles go to EV.

Yeah my first impression from the top image is, “wow nice Audi” but Genesis is a closer fit.

Yeah I guess I was assuming:

Yup I didn’t realize that sales of the Bronco Sport are falling, although the Escape also looks like it’s taken a massive hit after ~2017. It was selling like ~300K a year back in the teens. It’s hard to tell where sales could have been through the pandemic years, though.

I wonder if you’ll have to go to an auto parts store for gas at some point to fill up your collectors edition Dodge Charger at >$25/gallon because gas is limited production? I guess that’ll be about 20 years *after* the date when EV’s are >50% of vehicles sold in the US.

Significantly faster than a 2003 Mustang GT; probably would have been hilarious watching it wipe out at Cars&Coffee if that had been a thing in 2003.
