On the whole, collecting things seems like a weird glitch in the human brain. It would be cool to have a mini version of my actual car, or of my dream car, but I *really* do not need to add to the giant box of cars that were collected by myself and then my son over a few years of our early childhoods!

I wonder if Ultra Cruise has any relation to the work done by GM’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, Cruise? I’m guessing that in true GM fashion, these are completely separate technology ventures that share nothing.

+1 star for the association between the Mk VII and the Continental GT.  That’s great.

Yeah I’d take an $80K R1S over a $110K Model S any day.

Personally, I don’t think it makes a difference beyond some online rage. It’s no different than the amount of incentives a dealer may or may not be offering depending on the time of month/year.  Dealers have just done a great job at making it very difficult to understand what the *actual* fair sales price is for

robotaxis, a thing nobody really wants.

Damn, but I was going to start a company to retrofit MT’s into AT equipped cars to try to get that margin over 100%.

Yeah in some alternate reality it would be interesting to see a DaimlerChrysler that had gone deep into platform / technology sharing. It *could* have improved quality at Chrysler and reliability across both brands — if you’re shipping 10x more engines then you should put more time and engineer hours into making them

Lamborghini spent about 50 years building a reputation for wild looking exotic cars that only the most wealthy could afford to drive / collect because of their prices and insane maintenance. This was like depositing money in the Bank of Social Status.

Re: Tesla price cuts & the market for $90K - $120K EV’s:

Apparently Jaguar is going in the same direction — all electric, cheapest vehicle will be like their current IPace with a base price around $80K.

Interesting competition for the Lucid Air, Model S, and MB EQS, I suppose. Maybe they can pull off their strategy if they keep moving upmarket with cars like these.

Polestar may want to appear as a premium brand, but they’ve got a very high mountain to climb to compete with other Status/Fashion/Luxury brands like BMW and MB.

Some Big-Brain analysis in Excel shows us that 110% of cars sold in 30 years will have manual transmissions. You heard it here first!

Seems like it might be more accurate to say, “If you own your home and can install a charger, a short range EV will almost certainly work for you.”

WTF is this:

Yeah that’s a good bit of info to point out — this counts only the most extreme single-person accidents, and probably almost no minor multi-person accidents.

(1-0.99999819 crashes/mile)*(553000 miles)= 1.o009 crashes ... so the average American “crashes” once per 553k miles?

It is suspiciously worded — the implication is the base Ecoboost vehicle now includes the auto by default; maybe it’s a 0-cost option to swap to the MT?

Despite all my reasoning above, it somehow would be cooler to have a brand new car... :) Porsches are cool and all, but somehow I feel like they’re just over-popularized in every way.  Maybe if I drove one I’d feel differently...
