It’s a bit confusing where this design direction has come from: are they trying to keep their smaller cars looking similar to their most popular CUV / SUV models that wear a larger grille?

Old Porsches (versus new design):

Yeah it’s shocking their 2-door is the best selling model.

You don’t need to ask -- it’s the Silverado / GMC whatever clone.

I’d guess that satellite phone receivers would be overwhelmed if even a small fraction of the population all tried to use them at the same time (i.e. like 1%). Also, if you’re really worried about “what if’s”, most satellites will be destroyed or disabled (and their orbits filled with debris) if a major war starts.

Bumpy road surfaces and don’t require 4WD trucks. Virtually every *public* dirt road I’ve driven in the US was easily passable with something like Chevy Cavalier.

I think the biggest strike against the Elantra N is the ugly front end, especially with lighter colors.

...and the marketing departments of the Big Three are master manipulators.

If it can do 0-60 in well under 3.5 seconds, then *maybe* it would sell a few at 80K.  100K would be insane.

I agree, but I’d like to see a lower powered 2WD ‘family sedan’ variant that starts in the high 30k range (i.e. V6 equivalent) and a ~$50k version with a good set of options v8-equivalent power... and hopefuly skip the idiotic noisemaker.

Weather extremes? Nordic countries get along quite well with tons of snow and smaller vehicles. Rain and heat don’t matter for trucks vs. cars.

1. Fake gas engine sound on an EV is dumb and will always be dumb

Note that MT is not a requirement. Here’s another semi-oddball option that should be very reliable and has a nice V8:

Not to mention that Porsche is part of VW, so a bunch of their platform and technology development costs are shared across other vehicle sales, while Lucid is fully on their own.

It’s an impressive off-roader and just slightly more practical as a daily driver versus an Ariel Atom.

Why the hell do they offer this car with 20" wheels -- are those wheels the primary reason why the range drops from 316 miles (Ioniq 6 SE AWD Long Range) to 270 miles (Ioniq 6 Limited AWD)?

Yeah I’ve rented a truck *one* time in the last ~10 years to transport a piece of furniture because it saved me $50 over the store delivery. (Next time I’ll just pay for them to deliver it b/c it’s worth paying someone *else* to drag a huge table around.)

I’m in favor of anything we can do to discourage Mrs. Soccer Mom from commuting in a huge SUV (i.e. Hummer EV) or discourage Rich Dad from buying his 16yo son a lifted F350.

True

There is *no way* the car would have its current clean+stock appearance if someone had put a 1000W amp, subs, etc. in this car. They would have spent much more than the car is worth getting it back to this condition.
