To put it in car terms, it’s like saying the next-gen BMW 3-series is going to be Powered by Chrysler because they both use a variant of the ZF 8HP transmission. 😀

Thanks for the honest review.I agree 100% with your opinion on the 4-cyl engine and the “lease special”. This vehicle should be about $80K base, anything else is just a low-budget grab for a Porsche badge — any buyer for this vehicle would be *much* better served by a $65K Audi SQ5.

+1
I don’t care about white+chrome versus black+black+black cars: these are lame, unimaginative colors.

Who actually gets tax writeoffs on these? You need to be getting taxed for a business that requires use of a vehicle, right? Like a real estate agent or a (wealthy) construction company...

Some do make like $150-300K/year, the rest is in stock. (From what I’ve seen, getting a true $350K/year in salary means your are a few levels up in the management chain and are probably pulling in $750+ per year when stock is included.) The stock gets paid out over a ~4 year period, so if the stock price goes down

Yeah the only reason I can think why they stay is that their kids can inherit both the home *and* the ultra-low property tax, and then pull in like $6k/month rent.

I always wonder when I see these business-to-business orders. Frequently they’re full of caveats and really mean: we’ll order up to 100K vehicles *if*:

It’s true -- he’s not got too much to lose at this point, I suppose

“It was time for the chickens to return to roost,” he said.

What are the chances that Rivian is still operating in 3-5 years? I could see them getting bought up by another brand (Chinese?) Or becoming a delivery truck brand (assuming their Amazon business is doing well).

I still see houses for sale around me (California) for ~$1700/sqft — I think it’ll take a bunch more layoffs and to pull these prices down. I walk my dog through these neighborhoods and it’s always amazing how:

I think, for Tesla, it’s a simple supply and demand thing. Even at the higher prices, someone still has to wait 4-6 months to get the lower-end Model 3. It would be irresponsible for a corporation to keep their prices “low” when they have a huge waitlist of customers.

With a range of maybe 220 miles, I don’t see this car ever competing in the US market. They would need to price it *with options* for $30K they can move a few units, but I guess this will just be a compliance car for BMW.

Got one of these (in black) in my parking lot at work for the past couple of weeks.  Damn, it’s ugly.  This picture is a *much* better view of the car, which you’d never see unless you’re literally sitting on the ground.

Yeah I’d be seriously tempted by a Hakone Gen2

Hopefully this trend keeps going.

If we put the Jeep in space and accelerate it with a rocket motor providing 1g of thrust for ~1year then we’ll be at a substantial fraction of the speed of light. At this point, you drop a pedestrian in the path of the vehicle and watch the resulting ultra-hot plasma cloud from a safe distance.

So I actually spent the time retyping all those Transaction Prices from the June column. The mean is $55,708. As you pointed out, the mean is a meaningless number unless it is weighted by the volume of cars sold in each segment.

Any bright color is great, but this is not the best color Toyota has offered on this model...

YES! I inquired about a mortgage with a major national lender / bank and about 18 months later I started to get multiple daily spam calls offering me amazing interest rates. I guarantee that bank sold my info...
