I’m worried that Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. is turning into GM from 1990, or something: tons of brands and tons of platform sharing. Hopefully they can make something of it beyond hype and show cars.

What dirt cheap lidars are on the market? The only lidar on a shipping car that I’m aware of is the Valeo Scala that is equipped on high-end Audis.  I’m pretty sure it’s not ‘dirt cheap’ as the base price of the vehicle with this option is around $75K.

Following that line of reasoning, you’d be better served buying another car and leaving your truck to towing duty only. Maybe that’s what you do...? I’d imagine if you’ve got $$$ and space for a boat, it would be pretty easy to buy/park another car as well.

I was curious about Grand Central Station.  I guess it wasn’t built as a charity / donation type thing, but just as the terminal for Vanderbilt’s railroads in the city.  I don’t put this any higher on a list of charitable contributions than Apple’s store on 5th Ave.

Yes! Build a 3000' pyramid in the middle to beat out the burj kalifa, too!

Nobody is protesting crazy conspiracy theories.

...and you end up with some kind of frankenstein monster that looks like a development mule for a next-gen mustang that was cobbled together from a few generations of sheet metal and a pep boy’s catalog.

Then the could go toe-to-toe with a world class company like... Jaguar...?

We need to put some shitty answer up near the top to make sure it gets picked, then.

I guess you were getting pulled into the excitement around the GTI a bit too deeply? What you describe is exactly why people love the GTI: it’s an everyday family car with a decent interior and snappy performance. The whole premise of the $30K hot hatch starts with, “It’s not a sports car, but...”

You know, that’s a good point. After I make my first $100B, I’m going to build a damn monument that is designed to last 3000 years. This boat will be lucky to last, what, 100? Bezos should be putting his money into a sphinx whose nose wont fall off or something that will let future archeologists know who he is.

I doubt a radar would have seen a small, plastic, stationary object like that.  Lidar would have definitely seen it, and ultrasound would also have done a good job since USS sensors are great a seeing things that are nearby -- that’s how the automatic parallel parking systems work, typically.

Or just a traditional hybrid like gen-1 prius would have been great for this.

Does this use the Honeywell AGT1500 from the M1A1? I think that would cause the MPG to dip down to the 8 range. The ~4000 lb-ft of torque @ 1000RPM would definitely help get that mail truck rolling from a stop at every mailbox!

That’s called a soup kitchen, right?

WTF: are they literally just pitching some artist’s rendering of a space shuttle??! It looks literally like rocket powered lifting body with some boosters strapped on the side...

Now playing

I wonder if it can go up hills, unlike other double dualies built in new england:

But short term profits lead to quarterly bonus payments!

It’s really more of an urban vs. rural thing versus a Midwest vs. Costal thing.
