She’s also a professor at Duke University who does research on human+autonomous systems. She’s been focused on this area as a prof at MIT and Duke for 8+ years, so she’s definitely qualified to do government regulation / NHTSA stuff.

Yes the Civic Si is maybe a better comparison. It had similar 0-60 acceleration as the 2021 A3, at least. I’m guessing the FWD A3 will be in the high 6s range since the quattro version is a hair under 6.5s.

I’m admittedly a Honda stan, but if I had to pick, I’d probably take an A3 before an ILX.

Hi neighbor. I have the exact same experience. I saw about 3 of these total, two in traffic and finally one showed up at work yesterday.

Q: I need a car to watch a volcano eruption, what should I buy?

In the right market the Si probably had some discounts, too.  I was thinking of buying a GTI a few years ago, and I remember people discussing excellent deals from a dealer in Virginia(?)  while there were no deals to be had in the San Francisco area of CA.

Don’t forget

Seems like it’ll do pretty well. I bet the Civic Si’s MSRP (~$26K) will be about $4500 or $5000 *less* than a base GTI ($30.5K).

Some people are just not into kids. I don’t understand that mindset, personally, but I definitely know some people who would rather spend their time alone hiking or surfing than being with a family... interestingly enough, they are married but have separate hobbies from their significant others. To each his/her own, I

I think $15K would be a great deal for a REX model, but I remember these coming in closer to the $18-25K range, which made them much less attractive than a Chevy Volt, Chevy Bolt, or even something like an eGolf.

The i3 REX could also have been made much more useful with a 8 gallon fuel tank instead of it’s <2 gallon tank, with the appropriate software to cycle the engine to keep the battery charged. It would have then been a legit competitor to the Chevy Volt.

Yeah I’d say the actual nicer interiors on the i3 were locked behind $10k(?) of additional options.  The base level i3, like the car, looked different inside but didn’t have anything special in terms of electronics, audio, seats, etc.

Something like this G35x plus a $500 Harbor Freight Trailer is the answer.

1. We’ve still got the Miata and the Toyabaru BRZ-86, so it is possible to make a good sports car still.

Yeah I’d bet it’ll get into the low $40K range if you get the same engine as the Civic Type R. That’ll line up pretty well against the Audi S3 and Golf R.

What I think is hilarious is that some carmakers (BMW, for one) would charge *extra* to add a black headliner to your already black everything else.

... Well, gas costs about $5.30 a gallon over there now...

Now playing

The graphic for this article reminded me of something totally different, but hilarious. This deserves another mention on Jalopnik since it’s been almost 10 years (I think).

FYI, Cascada wheelbase is 106 inches.

I’m not embarrassed to drive a Buick, but I wouldn’t touch a vinyl roof / faux-convertible until the world runs out of Pontiac Azteks, Nissan Cross Cabriolets, and Acura ZDX’s.
