Putting all the MPG effort on the automakers is broken. At some point they will have to give away EV’s for free to offset consumer demand on large SUVs.

I think the problem is that in the last 15 or so years, the performance of a $30K car is already past the limit of what an average person could drive safely on a track without training.

True Influencers will tow this to a scenic location, take a few Instagram pictures at sunrise or sunset in yoga poses, and then go back to their hotel and have a drink by the pool.  #vanlife

With your opinion on the interior, I wonder how this would stack up against a Mazda CX-5 AWD ‘Touring’ trim at about the same price. While you might get shunned by your friends in New England and Oregon for not driving a Subaru wagon, it might be worth the extra penny per mile in gas* to drive the nicer CX-5.

Apparently these ships cost about $150M each. You could *buy* 10x of these ships for the same price as the $7500 EV tax credit given on 200k cars to for a single automotive manufacturer. Even if they cost an extra 10% with a cleaner engine, it would still be a pretty cheap way of reducing pollution.

“Fully washed, inside and out”

My point is this thing is massively overpriced in today’s Covid+Vanlife market. (See the comment from Laurens about how you can get a similar used camper trailer in the Netherlands for 25% of this price.)

While I understand the automotive industry has sold Americans on needing AWD to survive on anything but a dry, paved road I do not understand how AWD would do anything beneficial for the Bolt’s target market. I don’t think Bolt’s were really a big seller in rural Alaska...

What makes a loaded ~$29K Bolt “very much a budget car” when you compare it to a loaded $29K Civic? Perhaps you define ‘budget car’ as a non-luxury car? Have you sat in a Bolt, Kona EV, Leaf, etc? They’re all pretty similar.

But the hotel has A/C!

  • The LFA was very limited production and 10 years old now.

I wonder how much more difficult it would be to keep a Bentley Flying Spur running than this car. I mean, if you’re going to put the effort in, why not just get the Bentley logo and interior as well?

The pony car.

It’s cool & I enjoy reading about crazy things like this, BUT don’t forget that you can spend 67 nights in a $200/night hotel for the price of this trailer!

Since Toyota / Lexus’s mission in the US can be summarized as, “Boring as a 1990 Buick, but very reliable,” they cannot bring the GR Yaris here.

Airlines are going to start spreading COVID Delta across the country:

The Type S is priced against the A4, not the S4.  The S4 with comparable options is well over $60K.

It’s a bit disingenuous to say “starting price of $53k for a Type S”. The Type S has all the option packages already. I think they only thing Honda offers on this vehicle is a $800 tire upgrade.

I guess automotive grade CD players were probably like $10/unit at manufacturing, too, so they didn’t bother initially cutting it for cost reasons.

Yeah, whoever created that conversation really did not understand Tim Cook’s personality. There is absolutely *no chance* that Cook would say “Fuck You” and hang up. Cook’s got a very controlled and moderated public persona*, and he would not break out of this while having a random conversation with the CEO of a small
