Every state has de facto emissions laws because the fed has said laws. VW cheated on its’ federal emissions test from what I recall. Either way, the cheating itself was fraud and thus every one of those things was sold illegally and thus not legal to drive in the States.

“By definition his car is not ‘legal’ to drive in the US expressly because of the VW cheating.”

A whole lot of bicycling in traffic helped me be more confident on the street as well.

Yes, this, loads.

A friend of mine is a former stuntwoman and the part of the job she enjoyed the most was stunt driving. She has many stories about renting full-size cars (like panther platform vics), paying for the damage waiver, and taping down the e-brake button before hooning the shit out of them as practice. Apparently the vics

I remember quite well. It was a fantastic song and a good album. I felt Michael was the real talent in the family. I was disappointed that he didn’t really get anywhere.

Well, having the *wrong* VIN sticker is a problem, but a missing VIN sticker is just a message from the previous owner telling you poor repair choices were made.

Very cool. Then, legally speaking, it should not be an issue. People change stereos all the time. Ignoring the questionable ethics of stripping the car, if the swap is done correctly and the stereo works, it should not matter a whit.

There is very little about the whole thing that I don’t find disturbing.

Legally they can’t. You have the right to modify your property, even if those mods are terrible (like swapping out a lower grade radio).

Doors get replaced all the time due to damage from wrecks, tree limb hits, etc. Sometimes the VIN decal gets transferred over, sometimes not. It does not harm the value of the car (well, no more than knowing it had been hurt enough to warrant LF shell replacement will hurt the value).

I’ve been asking this question for a while now actually (Really have. On here. Pretty sure it’s in the archives somewhere.). It’s a HUGE issue IMO.

“People of color are always being called on to be the educators. White people need to figure out for themselves what they can do to make the world less racist. It. Is. Not. Our. Job.”

I <3 Volvo. Wish I could afford it. Guess I’ll keep driving my ‘88 245.

*slow clap*

The VanVan200 they showed is the US release. It’s already in showrooms.

At lunch with a buddy we had this self-same conversation and realized that we could probably make it work. And, as my girlfriend is currently certified as a teacher and working for a local public school, we could hire her and have a pretty serious leg up on most of the charter schools shamming it up.

Yeah, man. Fuck those guys for caring more about their values than your fears.

As usual, there is nothing more hateful to True Believers than apostates.

*facepalm* The point is that there are different tools for different jobs. In the auto world, there is no one vehicle that will fit every function, period. Just because a given vehicle does not fit some task that you see as needed does not somehow mean it is a bad vehicle for everyone.
