True, but I never leave my car out of gear. the emergency brake isn't enough of a guarantee against rolling away.

Yeah, because parking brakes NEVER pop out and let your nice ride roll into the other car/wall/off the cliff/etc.
Real men leave their manual transmission cars in gear, and don't rely on that silly concept of "friction" to keep their car from rolling. Compression brake, for the win!
Well played, sir. Well played, indeed!
You're supposition is that people will want to use NFC to pay. I've seen NFC terminals for years at gas stations, and never once seen anyone use it. Hell, old people will write checks at the grocery store, and I'm getting to be old. So I'll use my magnetic swipey magic thingy.
God, I work with engineers all the time. Getting them all to agree that the sun lights the world is a chore on a good day.
It was an example on a real world scenario. Of course you're right, the most power per gallon would be to run the engine at it's torque peak when paired with a generator set at the exact speed to generate the right amount of electricity to run the car. Diesel would be best here. I was simply using an example there.
I say, old bean, must you take everything so seriously? Tsk tsk.
Why would I do that, when I can still have a manual transmission car? Silly argument is silly...
Since I do not (will not?) own a vehicle with an autotragic transmission (real men pick their own damned gears, thankyouverymuch) then no, not going to work...
No. Because Racecar.
No. $@%# you, Facebook.
I'll give you a for instance from my stable. A 2002 Corvette Z06 has a massive freaking V8 motor producing 400+ HP/TQs. Bumming around town, at sub 20 MPH, while enjoying the ride and keeping revs up in the 3-4K range for sound and enjoyment, you might get 8 MPG. Take that beautiful beast out to the highway,…
3300 lbs, it seems.
I love you, 2014 Corvette Stingray. I love you...
....allowed.
Cars kill lots of people each year. We should outlaw cars.
Actually, if the warp drive works as advertised (ha?) then this effect probably wouldn't be dangerous to the occupants, since the localized space inside the warp effect wouldn't be subjected to the faster than light effects. It wouldn't think it was travelling all that fast, really. In theory.
This makes sense, though. Apple stayed out of LTE until the infrastructure supported it widely enough that it's a draw. It'll be the same story with NFC, which, by the way, I've never used and don't plan to if I can help it.
The next person that says it has a NACA duct on the hood gets beaten. With a dead shark.
