There’s a significant community and culture around deafness, to the point where many people refuse implants that could restore their hearing, want/hope for their children to be deaf, and refuse implants for those children (to allow them to make a more fully informed decision as adults). I’m sure there are doctors who

I think it would be useful to see how she actually looks, not in a photograph. Those photos were specifically taken under black lights. There’s a lot of different colors and textures happening, and it’s totally possible that she looks completely different in person. So, maybe once the photos came out, she should have

We teach people not to rob all the time. It’s something you can teach 3 year old kids, or 22 year old college students, and nobody objects. It’s near-universally considered a positive moral instruction.

Hahaha, the funny thing to me about this comment is that I, as a white women, have a context but I wouldn't call it a culture. I bet there are a lot of white people (like me, for a long time) who think "American" is a culture, and the only other culture that comes into play is Irish around St Patrick's day. I think

For real! Her comments remind me of people who think they're not racist because they have a black friend. Being homophobic isn't just about hating all gay people.

I'm with you/Selena. Religion doesn't (or shouldn't) get carte blanche to do bad things in the world just because it's religion. It's barely ANYTHING. It's a level of irreverence that Jezebel shows every single day. If we all adopted "if you don't like the rules, you can leave" then women, black people, brown people,

Exactly! It's not that she didn't fall, she totally did. But she didn't fall DOWN shit, especially not a flight of stairs.

For real. I remember that FOX News story about the surfer bro who was "abusing" the system because he bought grocery store sushi and lobster. Like, they didn't even seem to notice that homeboy was homeless, and bought that food because it can either be eaten cold or because lobster is easy to cook on the shitty little

This so much. Taking away cable TV from poor people is just mean. My mom is pretty poor and a bit hermit-y and she'd probably kill herself without TV. It's like 50% of what she does, and on an hour-by-hour basis, it's very cheap.

To be fair to those restaurants, there are way more fwd dieters than there are actual Celiac's in the world! :)

Oh, back in the day. Probably... 15 years ago? Or so. It was pretty shitty.

I thought it was so cool when my sister and I got Cher and Dionne dolls from "Clueless" and Dionne's hair was actually differently textured to simulate her braids.

OMG they subscribed my little sister Accutane without TELLING anyone that it can cause super bad emotional things. She had a history of depressed and manic behavior, and NOBODY told us! It wasn't until years after she was off it that she even told anyone that she'd been contemplating suicide, and had no idea what to

I can see this, I guess, but I also sort of think that's missing a lot of the point of Barbie. My sisters and I had, like, 26 Barbies when we were kids. Our favorite ones weren't the ones that were doctors or race car drivers or movie stars or whatever; in fact, that stuff stops mattering the second you get that doll

This comment is so everything. I wish there was a way to make (white, conservative) people understand that "being racist" =/= "hating all black people." You can have black friends and be racist. You can BE black and be racist.

Frats done right can be kind of awesome. We had three on my campus, who were known generally as the gay fraternity (though that one actually transformed into the athletic fraternity in the 4 years I was there), the rapey fraternity, and the nerdy fraternity. The nerdy guys (who weren't all that nerdy) were all really

All of this. And it is worth noting that, when the drinking age was raised, those accident rates went WAY down. It may not have been the best way to deal with the problem, but it worked, which makes it harder to back-track and find a better solution.

Herbal Essences had this body lotion back in the mid aughts that was for extra dry skin, and "main" ingredient (aka the one advertised on the bottle) was heather.... and it was amazing. I have suuuuper dry skin (like, couldn't wear tank tops until college because my skin was too flaky dry), and that lotion essentially

No no no no no. Really, don't do that. The using years instead of months and years thing. Hiring managers KNOW that you're hiding the dates of your employment, so instead of just having short gaps or a retail stint that are easy to defend, you LOOK like you're hiding something, and that is always worse. Resumes I look

I agree that it's misleading. I've worked a couple fast food places, and we used liquid eggs, which are just like a carton of pre-mixed eggs. It's really hard to make a lot of sandwiches fast if you're having to crack an egg for each one. Easy eggs are just fine, they're real eggs, I think the only difference in the
