For me its never about cash flow but rather a question of lifetime earning potential. A move to a lower cost area could immediately make sense if cash flow was of paramount importance, but i tend to think in terms of earning potential, moving out of NYC to anything but 2 other major cities(which are just as expensive)…

its a vicious cycle, because its not like you can get a job that pays the same in other places of the country.

wasn’t sure if your brother lives in NH with your father, but if he does, he should immediately move to MA... or CA if ur family can swing it to the west coast. MA and CA can make up(and most likely will) a lot of the cuts, NH not so much.
