That’s one of my biggest takeaways from this interminable nightmare. I think I spent most of January-March this year (when not curled into a fetal position, weeping) saying, “What do you mean that’s not codified into law? We’ve been on the honor system this WHOLE DAMNED TIME!?”

St. Louis-style . . . that provel cheese. Ugh.

Agreed. We shouldn’t get too excited.

Yeah — not the nitty gritty math stuff (though the people who were so inclined did get into that), but some modeling. We were pretty quant focused.

In a moment of despair and vulnerability after that video came out, I turned to my husband and desperately asked, “Do men talk like that when they’re alone?!”.

Exactly! Bottom line makes decisions easier and centers everything.

Thank you. No one seems to understand that career policy and public administration professionals have specific skills and, like, relevant experience. Are there people who are incompetent? Of course — as there are in every profession.

Yup. There is only one acceptable reaction for a Good Person who shows up to an event and realizes their companions are waving Nazi flags.

Yeah — we need that interval to recover. Thank god they don’t meet every year.

My eighth-grade U.S. history teacher was so instrumental in shaping my worldview. You are awesome and you can do this! The sane (and scared shitless) people of America thank you.

The difference comes with the tone — this is not exploitative, this is cheeky and the “boys” are in on the joke.

Except that this *is* the void. THIS IS THE VOID.

People who support this are the same people who look you in the eye and tell you the plight of millions of refugees or undocumented children is “not their problem”. It’s a moral imperative to fight for Baby Charlie but damned if they fight or give some of their precious tax dollars for Baby Cesar or Baby Fatemah.

I am a WOC, so thanks for that. My lifetime as such also means I am not naive enough to think the first woman Doctor would also be a woman of color. Just like I know the next companion will most likely not be a middle-aged/older woman or gender fluid.

Representation matters! And if you don’t understand that, well . . . you’ve probably always been represented. Cheers.

I appreciate other brown people who do this sort of thing (with mixed, often disheartening results), but as a brown person — why the hell would I want to sit across someone and argue my humanity to them (in a calm, unthreatening manner)? Because they asked nicely? Why do we always have to do the work?

“Tell you what? Let’s work with the Japanese to get to the bottom of this.”

What do these all-male exclusive clubs do, anyway? Circle jerks?

Oh no. No no no no no. If there’s no changing table in the bathroom, maybe the floor of the bathroom if it’s relatively clean and you have a nice big changing mat (I’ve done it). Or go to your car or a bench outside. That is unacceptable.

Always my argument — and funnier, and definitely more subversive. I love that the Wizard just throws up his hands and pretends to give the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Lion what they want, because they’re too silly to realize that’s impossible. And the Emerald City is not actually green. And Glinda has a kick-ass
