People who support this are the same people who look you in the eye and tell you the plight of millions of refugees or undocumented children is “not their problem”. It’s a moral imperative to fight for Baby Charlie but damned if they fight or give some of their precious tax dollars for Baby Cesar or Baby Fatemah.

I appreciate other brown people who do this sort of thing (with mixed, often disheartening results), but as a brown person — why the hell would I want to sit across someone and argue my humanity to them (in a calm, unthreatening manner)? Because they asked nicely? Why do we always have to do the work?

Oh no. No no no no no. If there’s no changing table in the bathroom, maybe the floor of the bathroom if it’s relatively clean and you have a nice big changing mat (I’ve done it). Or go to your car or a bench outside. That is unacceptable. 

Yesssss. I’ve been thinking the same thing. This is what privilege looks like. Can you imagine if President Obama’s surrogates had claimed he did something out of pure ignorance and should be excused? (Or, you know, if Obama had done anything that Trump has done. Anything at all. Any one thing.)

Right? This showed up on my feed yesterday. I mean, they look cute and creative — but I don’t want Tootsie Rolls and mutilated gummi bears all over my cookie. Why would I sit there picking off shit candy just to consume one cookie? That’s wasting time that I could spend eating more cookies.

Right? And if there was ever a time to be a “maverick”, it’s now. What does he have to lose? He’s 80. If he fights against his party now, he will be a hero again and gain back some of his pre-2008 credibility.
