Thanks! Yeah, I’m realizing how some of the lists out there are plain crazy — one advised bringing a gift basket for the labor and delivery staff. Sure, I might send something if I have a good experience — *after* my baby is born. Why the hell would I focus on that before even getting to the hospital?

I’m packing my hospital bag this week, and the most important/agonizing decision is which snacks to take for a postpartum treat.

I’m due to have our first child in a few weeks, and we decided not find out the baby’s sex ahead of time. This decision is baffling for many people — the number of times I’ve been asked, “But how will you PREPARE?!” as if preparing for a newborn girl is markedly different than preparing for a boy (or vice versa).

Your shower sounds like it will be a lovely, boozy, charitable good time! Same here — I never asked for a shower (bridal or baby) but have gotten both, because people wanted to throw them for me and other people have wanted to celebrate to mark the occasions.
