Now’s a good time to remind everyone that his ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ blows and for all his quoting of the Bard, he doesn’t understand a damn thing about him.

This article is the equivalent of Homer Simpson looking for an excuse to burn his pants.
For real? I see zero reason why an actor would be the solution to our problems. We don’t need to fight toxicity with more toxicity. The Democratic candidate polls are consistently moved by policy decisions and policy consistency. You can see the trend with progressive candidates. Move to the center and you take a hit.…
I can’t see how this story point is anything other than unforgivable. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I think knowing this, there’s almost no way it can make it a good movie for me. They dump on the ending of Return of the Jedi because they’re creatively bankrupt. Anything new would be better. Anything.
I have such beef with The Nightingale. The violence itself didn’t bother me, but the repetition (4 rape scenes) and provocation of it bugged me to no end. I’m sure it’s accurate to that grueling time period, but that doesn’t make for interesting storytelling. Couple that with the cartoonish nature of the Corporal, who…
Her terrible sripper bangs were perfect! Felt so appropriate. That “want to look cute but come off kind of trashy” look that strippers can fall into.
The Souvenir had amazing filmmaking for a story I almost cared nothing about. The filmmaking is strong enough for me to kinda like it. I think.
I feel like he’s in on the joke with this one.
I still feel like there was someway to end that film without the cartoonish violence. It’s almost like he felt obligated to conclude it that way. Leading up to that, it’s some of his most sincere and tense filmmaking. What he could’ve done instead, I can’t say.
Yes!
As to why the Dems don’t have US Marshalls scoop up witnesses, it’s the same reason they govern the way they do--they’re afraid of conservative bitching. That’s the majority of the Dems policy decisions: what can I do to prevent Fox News from yelling at me?! We’ve had near 20 years of governance like this and it’s led…
I’d say he’s never done anything in his career to deserve any vote.
Also, the CIA actually tortured these people. Showing does not mean condoning. Bigelow doesn’t shy away from that, and she leans into how jarring it is to see lily white, pretty redhead Chastain desensitized and casually watching the torture session.
Let’s be honest, Danson’s hair in that photo is probably the bigger crime.
Roony Mara has something to say about that.
Ok, let me preface this: you’re talking to a guy who finds joy in watching arthouse films of all levels (foreign, indie, classic, experimental). Tarkovsy is my favorite director of all time. I’m far from a philistine.
Short Term 12 is “serious, gritty indie about troubled characters” done right. It’s a gem.
A Most Violent Year is super underrated too.
I second Take Shelter and All is Lost. Shelter is just so effective. And All is Lost is a classic to me, a true force of nature. That directing feat should be up there with Miller’s work on Fury Road.
Oh hey, it’s the one guy in the world who saw “The Way, Way Back!” Good for you! (I kid, I kid)
