Buddy, I’ve never been brave enough say it but... FFIX might suck!???

Former high school history teacher here! Who is the “everyone” doing the dogpiling? A lot of high school history class was getting students to nail down who they meant when they said “they.”

I think the word “woke” has been causing you some trouble. You’ve got to put it in scare quotes, and it’s open to a lot of interpretation. I’m thinking of a word that would serve you better, and I’m struggling.

Hey friend! I just caught up on your discussion, and found it all fascinating. Thanks for sticking with it and trying to stay civil, even when some people were getting hostile and clowning on you! Your points provoked a few thoughts in me.

I gather that this statement was actually written in collaboration with some of the women from SoManyOfUs. He reached out, they had some sort of conversation, and this emerged from that. And along with everything else he is, Ellis is a good writer. Seems like he synthesized their wishes into a well-written apology.

There’s an eXcellent episode of Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men where they talk about Ellis and Scott Lobdell specifically, but then get into some very good guidelines of how they handle when a creator they admire does real life bad things.

First, I want to approach this in good faith- I know Kieron (and Jamie McKelvie) professionally, and like and admire them both very much. I don’t think it is likely that you are going to change my mind about that. And likewise, I’m not trying to persuade you to change your mind. But I am interested in what you have to

The most glaring one in hindsight is his 90s work on Excalibur. Famously, that was the run where Kitty Pryde lost her virginity to Pete Wisdom. Comic character ages are vague, but up until that point Kitty was written to be about 16. Pete Wisdom (who many, including Ellis, have called an author self insert character)

By all accounts, Ennis is a respectful dude. I guess there’s something to be said about getting all that negative energy out on the page.

I’m no legal expert, but there were elements of quid pro quo, which I’m pretty sure is criminal sexual harassment in the US. (Don’t know anything about the law in the UK). Ellis offered professional opportunities in exchange for sex. Even if the sex act didn’t occur, I’m pretty sure that’s against the law.

A tough thing for me has been seeing how this affects the generation of comics creators who got me into it- Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue Deconnick, Chip Zdarksy, Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie- deal with him. He really was their mentor, and a lot of them have spoken of him fondly over the years. But also, his victims were

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but I was in the room at NYCC in 2016 when Peter David had what I would describe as a public anti-Romani racist breakdown. It was very upsetting. This was shortly after he recovered from his stroke and everything, I wanna give the guy some benefit of the doubt, but it was pretty hard to

Respect!

My unified theory of Davidson has always been this: the dude is an alright actor, a very good standup, and a lousy sketch comedian. I like his jokes, I think he can effectively convey emotion, but he isn’t good at like, characters or impressions or anything like that. Always made him a weird fit for SNL, but I like

I think there are movie stars who bring a lot of themselves to every project. I think that’s Hemsworth, he’s always funny and charming.

And Star Wars! Even if Jess Pava doesn’t get a lot of screen time, whenever she shows her face in comics or whatever, she bears Jessica Henwick’s likeness!

This was my favorite E3 moment of all time.

I’m in a place where I totally can’t picture what a Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death performance would even look like. But ya know: she’s an actor, a good one. I bet she’s gonna act. Can’t wait for her to impress me.

sounds like a job for unions
