My Marvel trivia knowledge is vastly superior to my DC, and I’m not sure you’re entirely correct. I mean it’s comics, so you were definitely right at one point, but it’s gotten retconned.

Dude. I have a problem sometimes where I’m so enthusiastic about a book that I have trouble being objective for a while. That applies.

Horns is good but very sad. I liked NOS4A2, but I know a lot of people did not. The Fireman is great, but a helluva doorstopper.

The way those King men talk about Tabitha, she really did a number on them!

Well if you ever read some of his autobiographical stuff, it seems clear that King feels that a writer has a moral obligation to keep writing- that’s what makes them a writer. He tries everything that pops into his head. I think that’s commendable, I always get bogged down in neuroses and insecurities. That dude just

And Coke! That dude loved his coke (and I don’t mean the fizzy kind that comes in cans).

The Thunderbolts were first introduced in 1997 by Kurt Buseik. At the time, they were a brilliant plot twist- they SEEMED to be a team of all new heroes, but it turned out at the end of issue #1 that they were a team of villains and this was part of their scheme.

Wow, there’s a lot of good stuff to chew on in here. You are clearly more well read than me, but I hope you can respect my layman’s opinions.

The best part about King is that 75% of his books are nothing like his others!

I get you; it’s all degrees. But my one friend’s experience in particular was really eye opening. She didn’t grow up with Ghostbusters and seeing Venkman be sleazy like his was immediately reminded her of her experience being stalked. My girlfriend told me a similar story. And I realized, I definitely grew up on these

Counterpoint: King is very technically talented but he throws a lot of shit at the wall and not all of it sticks.

It doesn’t sound like you’re disagreeing with me. The insidious nature of rape culture is that it IS everywhere. And like, go talk to a woman (I’m assuming you are male based on your screenname, sorry if I assume wrong) and ask her how she feels about persistently being pursued. Probably pretty scared.

Fair ‘nuff. And thank you for having an adult discourse about it Spoooon, it’s why I try to have these discussion on io9 and not elsewhere.

Which is why I think everyone should deny Grant Morrison everything. Seriously, every time he’s let run wild it turns into nonsense, but you give him some guidelines and he’s transcendently awesome.

She tells him to leave her alone. He doesn’t. He won’t leave her house, he “surprises” her at work. And for his persistence he is rewarded. Both of my viewing companions had been similarly stalked by men in their lives (a fact they had no reason to share with me until our discussion after the movie) and his behavior

You’re absolutely right about that, but unfortunately, rape is everywhere and rape culture is a real thing.

So far of all the people coming out to explain to me how I don’t love Ghostbusters (which is untrue, I do), you are the first person to capture my feelings, so thank you.

I agree that the strength of the original movie was on the performers. But I watched the movie with two female friends of mine recently, who had never seen it before (and I was the “YOU’VE NEVER SEEN GHOSTBUSTERS!?” friend) and both of them were totally disgusted by “Bill Murray’s rapey attitude”.

No dude, I love Ghostbusters

No dude, I love Ghostbusters, I just think we need to acknowledge that stories, like people have flaws. And in a healthy relationship, you can see the flaws and accept the person (or the story) for who (or what) they are.
