You've forgotten a boatload of corporate IT directors. Putting critical data/services outside their realm of control is career suicide. They aren't dummies.

The nearest town for me is over 20 miles away. I had to have (expensive) satellite installed for internet usage as the fastest phone connection was 22Kb/sec. We've been iced/snowed in for over a week at a time. There aren't any jobs out here for my wife or I, (degreed electronics techs with Aerospace/Communications

But is it license free? Do they "require" that development be done on Apple computers? Do they charge out the yang for the SDK? 'Scuse me, I mean ADK? And do they keep control over the release, "to ensure appropriate user experience"?

I installed Kubuntu 11.04 yesterday, and I must say that the GUI was awesome. I'm normally a command line kind of guy, and I've been happy with the GUI for Ubuntu for several years now, (I only use Windows for work/school as required). I was so impressed that I went ahead and installed it into my system. Mistake. It

But it's getting to where the question should be, "Why would you want to?"

My wife accidentally found out the quickest way to make THEM hang up. Let your answering machine start recording, or make them THINK you're recording the phone call "for your protection". CLICK! Works every time. Guaranteed. Some people call it "gathering evidence". :-)

When I'm preparing for a potentially dangerous hack, I stop and think "WWMD?" (What Would MacGyver Do?)

@ghost252010: Don't worry. If they pull the switch, there won't be anything to watch but propaganda (gov approved "news"). The real stuff will be happening right outside your door. Might as well go outside and play. :)

It's REALLY important to lock down your wifi! My office manager had secret service show up at her door because the neighborhood kids made some anti-president Obama statements. Traced to her IP address.

@imnotoct: The down-river side of a dam, a hog farm feeding trough, and a trench in the garden with a bag of lime. How's that for a start?

@MrMonkeyMonk: That obviously the b*tch needs to have a "face-to-face" with a Greyhound bus. And you need to find a better place to work at. That's what I'm doing.

@JFL: XP just sits on a partition on my netbook. Mostly I'm running Ubuntu Linux. Looks like my wife's Win 7 laptop, just mini.

@Terry: The first time I told my wife she was evil, she just looked at me and said, "I'm female! Duh! Of course I'm evil!"

@GitEm$teveDave: Actually, no. "Stay away from Monster." It's easy to remember. I have a degree in Electronics, and a decade in the aerospace industry, and I won't touch Monster. Now if signal could be moved by marketing hype, I might be interested, but...

@tylerchristie: I guess you've not heard the phrase "drive-by"? Just visiting some forums that haven't been reloaded in the five minutes since they got re-infected can get you. And if your wifi isn't properly secured, well, shame on you. You got what you deserved then, didn't you?

@Mr.Gawn: Their called "children". Oh, my bad, you said a GOOOOD alarm clock.

@GreasyPig: I had to send some friends to reposses a computer system, some years ago. He kept refusing to return calls, and "wasn't in the office" when the manager went to retrieve the system. So my friends walked in, took the computer without anyone making a fuss, and made a quick $100 when they brought it back. It

Also, some HR departments have started refusing apps from people that are currently unemployed. The people that need a job the most, aren't even in consideration for these positions.

"Libre Office"? Does it come with cool masks? I'm in agreement with a lot of people here: it needs to be lighter/faster, look different, and provide functionality and simplicity not in MS Office or OOo.

I use a netbook with Ubuntu as my media player on the treadmill, while working with CAM, or coding. It's a very valid strategy, whither your using it with an old laptop for school, or using it on an ancient desktop as an Oracle server for a no-budget project. Been there!
