I have been doing the same thing, more or less, for about five years (with Linux Mint!). GIMP is very hard to learn but all the easy tasks in Elements can be done (red-eye removal, cropping, etc.).

I lived with both my mother and father again (I was 18 when I moved out) for brief periods of time. It never works out well.
I've heard that unfiltered coffee has some of these cholesterol raising oils as well, not sure it is such a bad thing given all the benefits. Starbucks gets consistantly high ratings in taste-tests. I am seriously considering a grinder for my coffee beans now. I really had no idea that the oil broke down so fast. Oh…

Don't buy the SIGNUM Cable management system from IKEA. I purchased this piece of junk for about five bucks and have regretted ever since. First, no surge suppressor will ever fit. Next, it will not hide anything and actually be next to impossible to install without a bit extender. Do not waste your hard-earned money.
Okay, you are probably more organized than I will ever be, especially talking about wire looms (harnessess). I just have a couple of cords to take out when I go. It would be much easier if both data and power came in the same cable over the transmission line.
We already have a Universal Serial Bus that we can plug into a computer for both power & memory. How about a USB 4.0 that would not only charge our device, but would control it? Turn your heat up or down or whatever? Wouldn't that be awesome?
Go-bags are a great idea. Everything right where you need it. You really have to have the fit and all the features just so to make everything functional. Unless you know your recipient's size and habits real well, I would advise against just gifting it. Ideally, you want to take your friend or family member out to a…
I have always found that almost all of these password managers are not very compatable between cross-platform/storage devices. This is the reason that I have been using KeePassX almost exclusively.
I bit the bullet last year and finally found a desk that really works: a two by four foot (.6 x 1.2 meter) black finish with adjustable legs. I kept it as simple as possible.Although I have my eye on a glass oblique model (mega bucks).
This becomes even more of an issue when having to pack up everything for travel, as sometimes cords become intermingled and tangled. The best solution I have found is to keep those cords on top and easy to access. There may come a day when we merge input/output. power, and data into one all-purpose cord (or use more…
No, I have used both but have never heard the term "green shallots". We have such a variety of foods available to us now. Just trying to stay informed.
Cool tip, thanks! Even with regular onions, I tend to take what is left with my dicing and add it to vinegar in my 'fridge to rinse later on, when I need them. I don't really know the difference between green and regular shallots, but the regular type seems to have a bit more garlicky taste to me.
Thanks for your reply. You have really given me a lot to think about. I did not realize coffee beans could break down so fast. As you know, I am not a real java connoisseur, but there are those in my family that are. Me mum bought a coffee-grinder/brewer that nearly scared the crap out of me when it first started. It…

I stand corrected. Still, how much does the coffee break down? My mother is a dedicated coffee-snob; I could care less, as I am all-in for just the caffeine. Does it degrade significantly over a week (about what it takes me to go through twelve ounces)? The other disturbing question is: does the caffeine break down?

"What is that crunching sound?"
When I first joined Lifehacker, it was love at first site.
Okay, first of all, coffee should not cost more than 50 cents per ounce. One reason I go for the store bought (like Trader Joe's) or the 8 O'clock brand. Second, we all know coffee, like flaxseed and other seeds/beans start breaking down once they are cracked open. That being said, they don't break down that fast. Why…

It is odd, but I don't crave a lot of salt most of the time. When I do, I usually add it to raw cucumbers, tomatos, and such. I like to pour the (kosher) salt into my hand so I can see how much there is. Any waste goes right into the sink. I feel that if I have a craving for it, my body must need it.
QWERTY was designed to keep mechanical typwriters from jamming by putting the most frequently used keys farther apart. So here we are, in the 21st century, using the same keyboard because our country is afraid of change and the amount of re-learning/configuration it takes to improve typing speed. so sad...
I like gaming too! There are a couple of emulators that I have on my system: FCEUX NES , Mupen64plus, and scummVM (I know, I'm old). You also have WINE, which I have been told is pretty good. Steam is coming out with some games for Linux as well. I will be looking into all of these when I remove Winblows after Mint…
