I had a Eeyore issue that started when I mentioned I like Eeyore. And as he's the most merchandised character, a couple people bought me things like Eeyore pens and shirts. Useful things that I could use, but alas people saw me using them, and next birthday and christmas, everyone was giving me Eeyore stuff.

lurkerbunny posted most of my fav SF and they are wonderful, but check out Diana Wynne Jones. Most of her stuff is gold. Her books are funny, well written, and surprising. I like her adult books as well as her children's books.
